]]>In addition, you can merge an open response with its related multiple-choice question, so that the write-in response becomes part of the multiple-choice question. The “Other” responses become part of the original question when analyzing the data and generating reports in Remark Quick Stats.
With Remark Office OMR, you can use the ICR – Intelligent Character Recognition capability (used in conjunction with a Microsoft Azure Computer Vision subscription account) to recognize and convert the handwritten response into text for inclusion in the data set and reporting.
To capture the handwritten “Other” response on your form, you will use an ICR region in the form template file.
In the ICR Region Properties, you will set up your region properties and, then, click on Associated Question in the task pane on the left side of the window.
In the Associated Question window, you will set up the Conditional Association Options. Check the box next to “Associate with a Question from Another Region” and select the appropriate Region, Question, and Answer(s). In this example, the answer for the associated question is “Other.”
If you want to merge the handwritten open response with the associated question for analysis and reporting in Remark, check the box next to “Merge with the associated question when analyzing.”
Click OK to save your changes.
When your completed forms are being processed in Remark, you will see that the handwritten responses in the ICR Region for “Other” are being captured and converted to text in the Remark Data Center grid. In this example, we have the handwritten responses “GOVERNMENT” and “RETIRED” converted from handwriting to text.
When generating the 204 Condensed Item Analysis Report in Remark Quick Stats, you can see that those open responses of “GOVERNMENT” and “RETIRED” have been added as answer choices for the associated question and included in the statistical analysis. The data from associated questions will be displayed in various other reports in Remark Quick Stats as well.
Note: The responses for reporting are case sensitive. For example, “GOVERNMENT” and “Government” would be considered two different responses in the analysis.

]]>While in the Data Center with your data showing, click on Save Data As in the task pane on the left .
This will take you into the Save Data window.
In the Save as type drop-down menu, select Custom (*.ASC,*.TXT).
Then, give your file a name and click on the OK button.
This will take you into the Custom Text Export window. Make your file configuration changes and, then, click the Next button.
Under “Which items would you like to include?” on the left side, scroll down to the bottom of the menu. There is now the option to add a [Custom Value] to the data set.
When you double-click in [Custom Value], a Custom Value window will appear, where you can add your additional static data to the data set. Type in the custom value that you would like to add to your data set.
You can then add additional fields to your Custom Text Export data set. Click the Add button.
You can, then, click on either the Preview button or the Finish button to continue.
In the Preview window, the custom value data has been added to the data set.
Click on the Finish button to save the Custom Text Export file.
In the Custom Text Export file the custom value data has been added to the data set.

]]>To use this feature have your template opened in the data center and select Read from the Data tab.
Select Show Advanced Options.
Check the box next to Archive images after processing. Then, click the Next button.
Select the image files that you want to process.
Click the Next button.
In the “How would you like us to handle your image archiving?” window, click the Name Builder button.
This will open the Image Name Builder window. The images will be placed in the Destination Folder. If you want the images to placed in a different location click the ellipse (…) and browse to the location.
Click on the drop-down menu for Image Base Name, select [Image Name]. Then, click + Insert Data into Base Name to add the Image Name to the Image Base Name.
The Image base name box will show the [Template Name] and [Image Name].
Click the OK button. Then, click the Read button to read your selected scanned image files.
Your scanned image file name is now added to the archived image file name.
And there you have it! By using the [Image Name] field in Remark Office OMR’s Package and Rename feature, you can seamlessly integrate original file names into your archived image names. This simple but effective technique enhances the organization of your scanned documents. Try it out and see how it helps your workflow! Happy scanning!

]]>To use this feature, create an Image region in an empty area on your form image in the Remark Template Editor. In the Region Properties, check the box next to “Prompt me for the fill value at the start of a read session.”
Click on Database Lookup in the task pane on the left.
Browse to your database file that you want to link to Database Lookup and select the Lookup, Replace, and any Additional Return Fields you may want to use.
Below is a sample of the database used in this example.
When you are finished setting up Database Lookup, click on the OK button.
As you begin processing your completed forms in Remark, you will be prompted to select the data for the Default Fill Value. Use the drop-down menu to make your selection. Using the drop down to select your information ensures your data will be consistent for reporting.
Your Prompt for Fill field and all additional return fields from Database Lookup populate the Data Center Grid in the Data Center as your forms are processed.

]]>Begin by using Remark Quick Stats to run a report. The process is the same whether you are working with a test and grading or working with a survey.
To export preferences from a computer:
1. Select Tools from the menu bar at the top. Then, select Export Preferences.
2. Browse to the location you want to save the preference file.
3. Type a name for the file. Remark will add the .ini extension to the file. You will need to copy this file to either a USB drive or to a network location to access it from the other computer.
4. Click Save.
To import preferences to another computer:
1. Select Tools from the menu bar at the top. Then, select Import Preferences.
2. Browse to the location of the file you saved previously and select the file you exported with the .ini extension. Click Open to complete the import.
3. You will receive a message “Import Successful”. Click OK to exit.
Your report preference settings are now imported on the other computer in Remark Quick Stats!

We’re back with another quick Remark Test Grading update, and this time we’re excited to introduce some fantastic features that will enhance your test-building experience. Let’s dive right in!
Building tests just got even more flexible! With the latest update, you can now toggle the test designer between a paper and online test preview option. This allows you to seamlessly switch between the two modes while constructing your test, giving you a real-time glimpse of how your questions will appear in different formats.
Distributing online tests has never been smoother. The “Online Test Preview” feature now displays the test exactly as it will appear to your students, including questions that were excluded from your answer key and multiple versions of the test. This enhancement ensures that you can confidently present your online tests, knowing that students will have a seamless testing experience after we provide you with a clear and accurate representation of what your students will be seeing during testing.
We understand the challenges that come with handling large tests, especially those packed with numerous pages and images. In response to your feedback, we’ve made significant improvements behind the scenes. These changes are designed to reduce the size of large tests, making the application more responsive as you build them. Enjoy a smoother and more efficient test-building process, even when dealing with extensive content.
We know life isn’t perfect so we’ve also enhanced bubble recognition under the covers to help read those real world forms, particularly when it comes to forms filled in with light pencil marks.
When you log into Remark be sure to read the notifications for all of the new enhancements.
